Matthews A. Ojo was a Professor of Religious Studies at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, from 1982 to 2024. Since 2023, he has served in Liberia as a missionary and the pioneer President of William R. Tolbert Baptist University, Monrovia, Liberia.

His research focuses on African Christianity, with particular interests in Pentecostal and Charismatic movements, Christian Missions and Baptist History in Africa, New Religious Movements, Christianity and Sexuality among the Youth, and Migration and Religion in West Africa.
